BAY PROTECTION AND TOXIC CLEANUP PROGRAM The Bay Protection and Toxic Cleanup Program (BPTCP) is coordinated by the Department of Fish and Game under contract to the California State Water Resources Control Board. The CDFG collects some samples and does part of the analyses in-house, and uses various subcontractors to do the rest. LINEAGE INFORMATION: BPTCP data was obtained on a floppy disk from Rusty Fairey of the California Department of Fish and Game on 5/16/97. The data was unzipped, imported into MS Access and re-organized to make the data easier to query and more compatible with other formats used on the WATER CDs. Three files resulted from the reformatting of the data: A stations file (which became the ArcView shapefile Bayprot.shp); A Samples.txt file (containing the station number, parameter name and parameter values for each sample); A SmplInfo.txt file (containing general information pertaining to the samples) The three files can be linked using the STANUM field. This field is found in each table and represents the sampling station ID. By linking the STANUM fields, parameter values for a given station can be directly observed by selecting the sampling station in the ArcView project view. A hardcopy document, "Data Base Description for the SWRCB/NOAA Cooperative Project (Legs 16-19)" dated March 22, 1995, was used to identify some of the parameter codes. This documentation did not identify all of the parameter codes in the BPTCP data base. USE NOTES: Trace metals are reported on a dry weight basis in parts per million (ppm). Synthetic organics are reported on a dry weight basis in parts per billion (ppb or ng/g). Values missing or not analyzed are reported using the value "-9.0". Thus a value of -9.0 = not analyzed. Values less than the detection limit of the analytical test are reported using the value "-8.0". Thus, a value of -8.0 = not detected. The field "FINES" represents the sediment particulate size ("grain size"), reported as percent fines. Total Organic Carbon (TOC) values are reported as percent of dry weight.
