Orthoimagery: Instructions to view the interactive map of Orthoimagery

There are 3 basic steps for obtaining the aerial photos and/or elevation data

Step 1: Zoom In to your Area of Interest

  • Use one of the zoom tools to zoom in or out

  • You can also query one of the layers (e.g. cities) and then Zoom to that result

Step 2: Use one of the selection tools to highlight the desired tiles

You can select tiles in the following ways:

  • Select individual or many tiles with the Selection Tool

Select tiles by clicking or drawing a box:

  • Select many tiles with an irregular area with the Draw Shape Tool

Select tiles by drawing a line or irregular area:

  • Use the Info button to select a tile

Select an individual tile:

A list will appear on the bottom part of the window, listing the aerial photo tiles that you have selected. This list will contain an FTP link for downloading the 3inch, 6 inch. 1foot or 2foot aerial photos. Some tiles have a choice of resolutions. There will also be a link for the elevation data.

Step 3: Click on the link to download the aerial photo or elevation data.

Description

  • Flown in June/July 2003
  • Color Ortho-photos
  • Resolutions(various): 3 inch, 6 inch, 1 foot and 2 foot
  • GeoTiff format (zipped)
  • Includes portions of Santa Cruz, San Benito and Monterey counties
  • Photo tiles are 2000 feet by 3000 feet
  • Tiles range in size from 3 MB (2 foot) to 170 MB (3 inch) in a compressed ZIP format
  • State Plane Coordinate System, Zone III or IV, NAD83, feet, NAVD 1988

Large Volume Requests

Large volume requests can be directed to AMBAG or the participating jurisdiction for the selected tiles.

Hard Copy Prints

The aerial photos have been printed and are available for viewing and use at the UCSC Map Library. Please contact Cynthia Jahns for more information.

If you want to obtain your own prints of the aerial photos, please contact DWR.

How to Obtain the Aerial Photos

The primary methods for obtaining the aerial photos are online via an Interactive Map Server (ArcIMS). This interface serves as a tool for geographically selecting individual photo tiles, which are then made available for downloading via a FTP link. Tiles range in size from 3 MB (2 foot) to 170 MB (3 inch) in a compressed ZIP format.
