"Building
A Working Organizational GIS"
Matt
Price, GIS Coordinator, Santa Cruz County
ABSTRACT:
A working organizational GIS is a system built on process
not personality. Successful GIS implementation depends as much
on planning, design, and documentation as it does on GIS technology.
GIS causes changes in procedures and operations which requires
dealing with organizational issues and multi-disciplinary teams.
Building a long term strategy and organizational support for GIS
is critical to your programs success. Based on past experience
and future challenges I will attempt to provide some insights
into building a working organizational GIS.

"Creating
A Strong Municipal GIS"
Richard Semple, GIS Coordinator, City of Monterey
ABSTRACT:
The City is building a centralized GIS from the ground up,
from servers and data to software and users. Its goal is to make
a central data repository with high-quality base data, and to
serve this data over the citywide Intranet to employees and over
the Internet to the public. Links to existing City databases are
planned to aid departments in decision making and planning. Investments
in hardware and software, training for employees, accurate and
complete base data, and strong leadership and direction are required.
"Spatial
Analysis and GIS"
Stephanie Watson, GIS Coordinator, Marine Mapping User Group,
California Department of Fish & Game
ABSTRACT:
Ever wonder what "spatial analysis" is or how spatial
analytical techniques can be used in association with GIS? This
presentation will include a discussion of the unique nature of
spatial data, an introduction to spatial analysis, and a brief
example of a particular spatial analytical technique.
