GIS Day is an annual part of the CCJDC’s education workshop program. It is held in mid-November each year, as part of the National Geographic Society's Geography Awareness Week and allows geographic information systems (GIS) users and vendors to showcase real-world applications of this important technology. GIS Day activities strive to promote geographic literacy worldwide.
The CCJDC GIS Day program is sponsored by AMBAG, with notable
supporting contributions from local technology resource
groups as well as software and imagery vendors. Support is provided by local technology resource groups
include California State University Monterey Bay, Monterey Bay
National Marine Sanctuary, Monterey Bay Aquarium, Moss Landing Marine
Laboratories, Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute, Monterey
Peninsula College, the California Coastal Commission and many others.
A map contest and calendar of winning entries has been a special feature of the CCJDC since its inception
